Fifth shot

[Elsa wakes up rather disoriented. It's warmer than she remembers, definitely warmer than the end of March ought to be. And the fact that she's in one piece, safe and sound, is still strange to get used to after dying. While endless extra lives are a nice thing to have in the absence of her immortality, it has proven to take quite a bit of getting used to. This waking is, of course, even harder because she's back to missing an eye, an ear, and most of her hair. The regains she took from the post office must have been temporary, then. Interesting.

Then she looks at the date. Today is May eighth.

May. Eighth.

Where the ☠☠☠☠ did the past five or six weeks go? The last thing she remembers is being squished beneath the foot of a giant milkman robot. Did this town seriously manage to brainwash her into thinking she was a good little housewife for all that time?

☠☠☠☠.

A glance out the window shows a miraculously rebuilt Mayfield, which only takes her slightly by surprise; rapid reconstruction is not something she puts past the people in charge of this hellhole. And, really, if she has to deal with missing over a month in her life, the least the town could do is give her a functional world to return to. She can always ask Cap or Tabby what happened after her death.

Well, maybe not them. She'd prefer competent information, so it'd be better to ask Elizabeth or the Doctor for that update. For now, however, it's time to actually get out there and take a look at things for herself.]

A: phone

How often are people droned for over a month?

What the ☠☠☠☠ did I miss all this time?

B: 951 Beulah Street

[Well, okay, Elizabeth seems to be a drone. Even worse, today seems to be Mother's Day, so she and the other drone child are adamant about showing how much they love her, giving her hugs and offering to make her breakfast and showing off how well they cleaned the house. Elsa, being a creature that does not do affection, is more than a little creeped out by this. She just woke up from a long-term droning, she doesn't need this right now.

She finally chases them out of the kitchen, telling them to go start a garden for her in the back yard or something, and makes herself some tea. She'll feel better once she's had a cup.

Or three.]

C: Around town

[Elsa's wandering around, trying to see if there's any sign of damage left over from the attacks leading up to April 1st. Unsurprisingly, she finds nothing.

Oh, and she has a shotgun slung casually over her shoulder. No harm in staying armed, especially when those ☠☠☠☠ing bears might be hanging around.]

D: The High School, Monday morning

[Apparently, Elsa's teaching home economics now! She has been ever since she was droned, but this is the first morning in which Elsa's actually aware of it. As such, she's completely unprepared for the day's lesson. Time to improvise and teach these girls something more useful than how to cook and sew. Any idiot can figure those out well enough to survive.

This time, she has two shotguns. They're currently sitting on her desk.]

From here on out, we're going to use this class period for things that actually matter.

Today: how to care for your firearms. Next week, we'll move on to actually using them.

[Look who's come stumbling into the room, looking half-asleep. He pauses when he sees her, grabs his own cup of tea and plonks down across from her]

Welcome back then.

[Ellie watches him enter the room and get his own tea. Nice to see he hasn't changed over this month and a half, as far as she can tell.]

Thank you.

I'm glad to see I haven't been left entirely by myself here. How long ago was Elizabeth droned?

[He fiddles with his tea and fidgets when he finally replies, which in his own strange body language indicates his discomfort with the subject]

Recently.

I see.

[Elsa's not always the most sensitive person, but she can see that he's bothered by the subject. And, honestly, she's just as unhappy with the knowledge. She liked Elizabeth; the drone is no improvement.

She tries her hand at trying to make him feel better, although the deadpan delivery as she sips her tea probably doesn't actually assuage anything at all.]

She might be back. I was gone for over a month.

I know.

[He leans back in his chair, crossing his ankles]

Though it doesn't seem to be predictable at all except, well, when their things disappear when they're droned.

...Like Liz's did.

[Oh. That's not a promising sign at all. Elsa frowns deeply.]

I hate this ☠☠☠☠ town.

Dunno. She might be back in her proper home. For her, it's probably better there. She'll go on to do great things.

From: [identity profile] with-an-accent.livejournal.com
That's a good point. And I know she will.

It was an honor to have her here, really.

[It's still cold comfort, though, especially since the girl's drone is still around the house. How the hell do they do the whole mind-and-body thing, anyway?]

How have you been?

Date: 2011-05-09 03:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] coolbowtie.livejournal.com
Yeah, it was. And I'll see her again. Or... have seen. She'll see me in the... future.

[He shakes his head before yawning again. He looks alright, just a bit skinnier and a few new scars from the Milk Man fight. Though his current state is an improvement from a few weeks ago.]

Me? Well, I'm alright. Always alright. Though we're having a bit of a deficiency among kitchenware since I've been making the tea myself. I've broken a few cups since Liz left.

[Elsa blinks at him a few times, confused, before remember that the Doctor isn't human. Right, right.] I won't be seeing her again unless she's brought back here, which is for the best.

Are you really that bad at making tea? Why didn't you just fuss at my drone or Elizabeth's drone to make it for you?

Considering what this place does, it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry it with you all the time. That's why I have this with me.

[The fact that the girl seems to be a teenager doesn't really faze Elsa. She's been dealing with monsters since she was an infant, after all.]

... I would probably get harassed by drones if I carried it around with me...

...

... I guess I could get something smaller...

From: [identity profile] with-an-accent.livejournal.com
Just ignore them. The drones don't have minds of their own, so why should you care how they judge you?

Although a smaller firearm wouldn't be bad for you to have. They fire more quickly.

Point.

I'd say threaten them a little, but all that does is make them even more upset. And I'm not sure it's okay to just shoot them where they stand.

[Waste of ammo.]

Also a good point. Although the fat ☠☠☠☠ could use some more lead in his diet, if you ask me.

Because he cheats.

[She'll find a way around that, someday. Shooting him would bring her no small amount of satisfaction.]

Yes, they are. Especially the people I know.

How did the fight end? I fell before the robot was taken down.

[Well, she was smooshed. But saying "fell" sounds a lot more dignified.]

Victory, of course. Were you expecting anything else?

Of course I wasn't. I just wanted to hear it.

I have to wonder where all the damage went, though. How did they manage to clean everything up in such a short period of time?

...What exactly are you looking to shoot?

[Dist hasn't been paying attention to the dates, or he'd be more cautious around females in general today. Though, to be fair, his tone is inquisitive and rather benign.]

I like to see that kind of enthusiasm.

How much do you know about shotguns, Ms. ...?

Akashi! And I'm really better with pistols. My friend Mana's pretty good with shotguns and sniper rifles, though. But I'm definitely willing to learn!

[NEW FAVORITE STUDENT.]

If you're willing to learn, then I am more than happy to teach you. It's better that you know about all types of firearms; you don't always get your preference.

[She'll also be teaching them how to improvise weapons out of just about anything, but that's a lesson for another day.]

That it does.

[Elsa waves the girl to the front of the room so she can get a better view of what's going on.]

[Yuna bounces on up to the front of the class, all smiles.]

Okay, ready!

Date: 2011-05-12 06:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] with-an-accent.livejournal.com
[Elsa sets one of the shotguns in front of Yuna and picks the other up.]

Now, watch closely.

[And she starts taking the thing apart. She can do this with her eyes closed, but she forces herself to do it slowly enough that Yuna can see what she's doing. After she finishes, she looks at the girl expectantly.]

Now, you.

Date: 2011-05-12 11:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gonnamarrydaddy.livejournal.com
[It's her first time doing this kind of thing, so Yuna is understandably not that good at it. She fumbles around with the pieces a bit, getting stuck halfway, but eventually manages to get the thing taken apart. It does take her a little while, though.]

Wow, this is harder than it looks...

Date: 2011-05-17 02:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] with-an-accent.livejournal.com
Which is why I'm giving you this opportunity to learn and practice.

[Elsa's getting out some supplies to clean with.] Try putting it back together and take it apart again. Like anything else, you get better each time you do it.

Date: 2011-05-17 11:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gonnamarrydaddy.livejournal.com
All right! Let's see...

[Yuna gets the first few parts together faster than the later ones, just by virtue of having touched those ones the most recently. But the picture is starting to come together for her, and eventually the rifle is whole again. And then she starts on disassembling it once again. Guns are precision instruments with lots of working parts, so it's still slow going, but she seems to be getting more confident, at least.]
